Reportage sketching – the last tram ride in Karlsruhe’s main street

After many years of construction, a tunnel for trams was opened in Karlsruhe. Up to now, the trams drove through the city centre. With the opening of the tunnel, they now only run underground.
Last weekend, some historic trams drove through the city for the last time and I was allowed to come along to do reportage sketches of the last trip through the city center.

11:30 - we meet at the depot for the historic trams. I pick the oldest one, tram 100, built in the 1930ies.

12:00 - all historic trams take a route through the city.

12:30 - first people meet along the way to take pictures.

At some intersections people gather to take pictures.

14:30 - groups of photographers keep getting bigger.

14:45 - all historic trams meet for a corso in the city center.

15:45 - the main street is packed with people.

16:00 - final ride through the main street. People taking pictures, waving and one elderly woman waving with a white tissue looking sad.
